Kamp!: a Łódź trio with synth-pop, new wave and French house in its sound

KAMP! are an electronic trio formed in Łódź in 2008. Their sound is often described as melodic synth-pop influenced by 1980s new wave, French house and chillwave. The double single “Heats/Distance Of The Modern Hearts”, released in summer 2010, is conclusive proof that KAMP!’s popularity and favourable press are fully deserved. It is no coincidence that alternative music website screenagers.pl named “Heats” the best Polish single of 2010, while the band played as frequently abroad as in Poland, appearing at EXPO 2010 in Shanghai, Culture Collide in L.A., The Great Escape in Brighton and Liverpool Music Week.

2011 proved a breakthrough year for KAMP! In January, they supported Hurts on their Polish tour. Further performances followed in London and in the USA at the music industry’s most important showcase event, SXSW in Austin, Texas. In September, Portuguese label D.I.S.C.O. Texas released the first official single promoting the as-yet-untitled release. “Cairo” also marks KAMP!’s international debut.

In December 2011, the JBAG remix of “Cairo” appeared on “Kitsune Club Night Mix #2”, making Kamp! the first Polish band to feature on a release by the cult French label.

Their next release, “Breaking Ghost’s Heart”, opened the door to Poland’s leading radio stations. They received airplay on Radio Three from Agnieszka Szydłowska and Piotr Stelamach; Radio Roxy from Novika, Lexus, Tomasz Kin and Bartek Czarkowski; Polish Radio Four from DJ Bert, Rawski and Ula Kaczyńska; and student and regional stations. The song’s popularity and excellent club-concert reviews led to appearances at major Polish festivals. In summer 2009, still their first year, they played Selector, Opener, Audioriver and Tauron Nowa Muzyka in Katowice. These were joined by performances on supportive radio stations: Offsesja on Radio Three and Przesłuchanie on Radio Roxy.

KAMP! have also created excellent remixes for Cool Kids Of Death, Nathalie & The Loners, Indigo Tree, The Compleiner & The Complainers, Monika Brodka and Thieves Like Us. They draw on these in concerts too, creating a unique, energetic party.
