Wrocławski Sound 2011: reunions, premieres and Igor Boxx’s “Breslau” finale

Several faces of Wrocław’s music scene

This year’s programme invites audiences to hear local music from different perspectives. Bands with a long place in the city’s history will appear alongside young artists, new albums and projects prepared for the occasion. Centrum Sztuki Impart at ul. Mazowiecka 17 will once again open its stages, allowing audiences to move between the concerts.

Formacja Chłopięca Legitymacje and Matplaneta will be among the most anticipated returns. The former will perform after a lengthy absence, while the latter will reunite especially for Wrocławski Sound. These meetings offer a chance to hear bands important to the city in a new context, alongside artists just beginning their own musical chapters.

New records and distinctive performers

Kormorany will present “Majaki”, Kariera is preparing the premiere of “Miasto”, and Sinusoidal will appear following the release of its debut album, “Out of the Wall”. Alicja Janosz will perform material from “Vintage”. Bartosz Porczyk will invite audiences into the theatrical and musical world of “Sprawca”, while vocalist Maria Payne will join Fat Burning Step.

Friday’s programme features Zgas, Gliniane Pieśni, Las Rzeczy, Bartosz Porczyk, Sinusoidal and Legitymacje. Saturday brings Kasia Mirowska with Liquid Love, Alicja Janosz, Fat Burning Step, Kormorany, Matplaneta and Kariera. Songwriting, soul, electronics, improvisation and heavier sounds will meet in one showcase.

Młody Wrocław gives audiences a voice

Thursday 20 October belongs to the finalists of the “Młody Wrocław” competition. Funk’n’Tronic, This Great End, gbTrio, Robot House and Der Slapstick will perform. The audience will choose the winner by voting. The winning act will also have the opportunity to open the gala concert.

The competition extends the showcase to artists from Wrocław and Lower Silesia who are still seeking a wider audience. Listeners will have the chance to choose a project they want to support in the months ahead.

A Sunday devoted to “Breslau”

The finale on 23 October brings Igor Boxx’s “Breslau”, with VJ Spectribe, Mazzoll and Magierski. Music and images will form a story drawing on Wrocław’s wartime history. After exploring the current scene, the programme will turn to an artistic view of the city’s past.
