Kari: a Polish songwriter and producer associated with the alternative music scene

Kari is a Polish artist, producer and singer-songwriter hailed by journalists as a revelation and a hope for Poland's alternative scene. Two years after the success of “Daddy Says I’m Special”, released as Kari Amirian, she returned with “Wounds And Bruises”, both released by NEXTPOP.

The new release shows clear changes from the singer’s previous style. “Wounds And Bruises” is an album of raw, vivid contrasts: energetic rhythm against subtle melody, spirit against reality, power against fragility, courage against calm. Kari’s charismatic voice mingles with sounds ranging from tribal beats to electro and the 1980s. Nine honest stories explore searching for personal truth, dramatic life changes, wounds and rediscovering oneself.

The lyrics are bold and mystical, sung with great charisma and power. The album was produced by KARI and Jon Headley in the UK, where the singer spent the past year seeking new inspiration. KARI won HIRO magazine’s main award in 2012 and a Fryderyk nomination for Debut of the Year. She has also received accolades for her latest release, “Wounds And Bruises”. It won Album of the Year in Musicis.pl’s Prześwietlamy 2013 poll and numerous distinctions in annual round-ups and polls, including Brand New Awards 2013, Gazeta Wyborcza, Tygodnik Powszechny, T-mobile.music.pl and cgm.pl.

Critics and fans place her alongside artists such as Bat For Lashes, Lykke Li, Stina Nordenstam and Fever Ray. She has played numerous concerts across Poland, including major festivals such as Open’er Festival, Free Form Festival, Męskie Granie, Slot Art Festival, Malta Festival and many others. In March this year, “The One” spent a week on the BBC Radio 1 playlist as part of BBC Introducing and received very favourable reviews from well-known British presenters. This led to KARI’s appearance on the BBC Introducing stage at BBC RADIO’s BIG WEEKEND in Glasgow on 24 May.

KARI's work carries the name of the rapidly developing NEXTPOP Songwriters’ Label, known for producing outstanding original music with the power to transport listeners to another dimension. Alongside KARI, the songwriter-focused record label releases artists including Fismoll and BOKKA.
