Wroc Love Exclusive Stage 2008: Don Carlos and a second reggae edition in Wrocław

7 MARCH 2008

We first hosted Gentleman in November 2007 as part of Wroc Love Exclusive Stage. This time, after winter's hibernation, it is time for a spring awakening with such giants of heartfelt music as Don Carlos and Seini with Yeliba. The line-up will also include leading Polish artists such as Habakuk with guests and Bob One & Tumbao Ridim Band.

Wroc Love Exclusive Stage has certainly been exceptional and exclusive since its premiere, thanks to its artists. Great music carries more than sounds and words: above all, positive messages and stories. That was true of Gentleman, and will be true of Don Carlos and Seni & Yeliba, appearing at Wytwórnia Filmów Fabularnych in March. Don Carlos is currently one of reggae’s most colourful figures.

The founder of legendary group Black Uhuru has a superb rapport with audiences. His concert is a journey through the history of reggae worldwide, while records including “Ease Up”, “Seven Days A Week” and “Groove With Me” have become classics of this swaying musical culture. Another international guest will be Seyni with French group Yeliba, bringing a blend of traditional Guinean rhythms and Jamaican reggae. Alongside five albums, this African-born artist has played hundreds of concerts worldwide, including Festival Musiques Métisses in Angoulème, Move Against G8 in Rostock, Summerjam in Cologne, Belgium’s Festival Esperenzah, Wiesen Reggae Sunsplash in Austria and Festival d’Art d’Afrique in France.

Alongside the stars, the Polish artists' concerts also promise to be interesting. Częstochowa's Habakuk will present material from their new album, “Family Front”, in Wrocław for the first time. Their special guests will be Muniek Staszczyk and Renata Przemyk. Tumbao Riddim Band, supported by Bob One, will certainly bring back classic riddims topped with fine vocal flows.

The Wroc Love event series is a milestone in Polish reggae, showcasing not only the genre's pioneers and their work, but promoting new projects by talented young Polish creators. They set directions and blaze trails, enriching musical culture along the way. It is worth being there…
