Spring Reggae Jam 2007 at Mega Club: reggae, dancehall, ragga and hip-hop in Katowice

Poland’s leading sound systems and a whole night of partying: that is how Katowice’s Mega Club will welcome spring. This Jamaican marathon will continue until morning.

24 MARCH 2007

To hot reggae rhythms in all their variety — expect an energetic blend of dancehall, ragga and hip-hop — you will forget about drowning the Marzanna effigy and welcome spring with one great wave of positive swaying. SPRING REGGAE JAM 2007 guarantees a fantastic time, led by the country's best sound systems. Modern music, good vibrations and a veeeery long night: winter has no choice but to surrender.

About the artists:

EastWest Rockers

EastWest Rockers are three excellent singers performing in Polish, English and Jamaican patois. Grizzlee, Ras Luta and Cheeba have contributed to most of Poland's significant reggae projects, including “Pillar of Salt”, “Biba!” and the Germaican Records compilation “Polski ogień”. At the beginning of the year, they released the brilliant album “Ciężkie Czasy” through Karrot Komando.

Natural Dread Killaz

A young, exceptionally talented Wrocław group — the band behind the hit “Biba!”. Their music is an exciting, explosive blend of reggae, dancehall, ragga and hip-hop. They are renowned for remarkably exuberant, energetic performances, including at Wrocław's One Love Sound Fest. The band are currently preparing their second album, to be recorded with live instrumentation supplied by the musical powerhouse Riddim Bandits.

Bass Medium

Founded in 1998, the sound operated as Bass Medium Trinity from 2002–2005, with Marika, Frenchman and ABselektor. No Duck Records released “Mówisz i Masz”, containing 13 tracks over Jamaican riddims. “Pociąg z Babylonu”, issued by Siodemki.com, was the first contemporary Polish vinyl release legally using an original Jamaican riddim, The Return (Stop That Train). In the current line-up, Marika and ABselektor perform songs from “Mówisz i Masz” and new material.

Obora Rekords

Active on the scene for more than a decade, he founded the Roots Masakra and św. Inkwizycja projects. His selections feature Jamaican roots reggae, early dancehall and modern roots from the seven-inch record collection he has built over the years. He treats his sets as a form of performance and an opportunity to share Rastafari’s musical message. On 14 October 2006, he won Poland’s first Roots Clash. He has released three mixtapes.

Dreadsquad

MMF founded the sound system in 2001, with Funksion joining in 2002. Łódź soon proved too small. They moved forward, climbing ambitiously and persistently, crushing the competition with first place at the nationwide Soundclash twice, in 2003 and 2004. They crossed Poland’s borders to conquer Europe, appearing in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Portugal, Lithuania and Slovakia. They released three mixtapes and MMF’s production album “Dread za Dredem”, featuring Poland’s finest reggae singers.

Single Dread Sound System

It all began a few years ago when Malik met Da Killa, a Polish selector based in Germany. Today, Malik, vocalists MadMike and OlaMonola, and Gwoźdź and Mr Czapla, responsible for effects and selections, form SingleDread Sound System. They are currently based in Warsaw. They specialise in modern roots, rub-a-dub, reggae ragga and dancehall selections from the eighties and nineties, the most vibrant period in the style’s development in Jamaica.
