RAM Session vol. 6: Kapela Timingeriu and Balkan, Romani and Jewish music

Kapela Timingeriu is an eight-piece orchestra featuring violin, double bass, clarinet and accordion, among other instruments. Wrocław audiences have heard them at BuskerBus Street Art Festival. They also appeared at Carnaval Sztuk-Mistrzów in Lublin, and in early June played Łódź of Four Cultures Festival.

They write: “Kapela Timingeriu is a family band born from a natural need to experience music as a situation in a particular place, time and context. Making music gives us a reason to meet, a living, open situation. We mainly play and sing Romani, Balkan and Jewish music, alongside other beautiful melodies and songs, familiar favourites and forgotten pieces rediscovered. Playing together means journeys and returns to the sofa at home, encounters lasting a moment or longer, a way of being together.”

Kapela Timingeriu’s musicians name artists and bands including Shantel, Traf de Haidouks, Duo Ruah, Amsterdam Klezmer Band, Sutari, Mamatucada, ProbaBanda and Ovidiu Lipan Tandarica among their influences.

Kapela Timingeriu will perform in the Radio Drama Studio with the following line-up:

Katarzyna Kapela Timingeriu – violin, vocals Jacek Timingeriu – accordion, vocals Ewa Timingeriu – clarinet, vocals Mikołaj Nowicki – double bass Jędrzej Kuziela – percussion Wojciech Nekanda Trepka – percussion Magdalena Lipniewska – flute Kuba Kurek – trumpet
