Reggae/dancehall music, and certainly its fans from across Poland, will take over Wrocław on 10 November. Fourteen reggae bands and sound systems will set up at W-Z, all under the banner of love and love alone. One Love Fest will warm your hearts and make sitting still impossible on this November evening.

Reggae and dancehall are growing ever more popular. Sound systems whose music until recently reached only committed reggae fans now represent a breath of fresh air in Polish music. Selections based on highly danceable Jamaican reggae standards, combined with dynamic MC vocals, are creating something new on the Polish music scene.

On the one hand, drawing on hip-hop, sound systems attract a young but curious audience. On the other, basing their music on traditional and original riddims, they bring the music Jamaican-rhythm fans love into the reality of the twenty-first century.

Sound systems are not alone in growing popularity. Reggae bands playing their own instruments are also enjoying a renaissance, demonstrated by Indios Bravos and Habakuk, whose Polish tour last year attracted over 10,000 fans nationwide. No other tour by a band virtually absent from mainstream media drew such crowds. We must also mention Britain’s Zion Train, whose two tours this year were major successes both artistically and in attendance.

Wrocław’s One Love Sound Fest will be a showcase offering the chance to see the best of the Polish reggae scene, in both sound-system and traditional live-band formats. The club will have two stages: one for reggae bands and another reserved for sound systems. The event aims to present acts from across Poland. All the best-known sound systems will appear at One Love, led by Bass Medium Trinity, Kadubra and Love Sen-C Music.

The festival of love will not live by sound systems alone. Its second stage features live bands including Vavamuffin and Wszystkie Wschody Słońca. We must also mention perhaps Poland’s finest selector, DJ Feel-X, who will strike as always with the freshest Jamaican riddims and superb scratching. A surprise also awaits, certain to match the festival’s biggest stars in scale. Expect a broad musical spectrum, from dub and classic reggae to dancehall and ragga.
