KOZAK SYSTEM AT AKADEMIA CLUB

24 NOVEMBER 2018

Kozak System was formed in 2012 by members of the famous Hajdamaky. Iwan Łenio, Ołeksandr Demjanenko, Wołodymyr Szerstiuk, Serhij Borysenko and Serhij Sołowij then began work on their debut, “Szabla”. They invited many Ukrainian musicians and writers to collaborate, including Saszko Położyński, Andrij Sereda, Katia Chill and the excellent writer Serhij Żadan. The Ukrainian release took place in November 2012; the album went on sale in Poland a few months later and became enormously popular. Kozak System began performing abroad and quickly conquered the folk-rock scene and beyond, giving a series of superb performances at music festivals in many countries.

In October 2013, Wladimir Klitschko seriously considered entering the ring for his fight against Alexander Povetkin to Kozak System’s “Brat za brata”, although this did not happen. The song gained a second life in 2014 as Kyiv’s unofficial Euromaidan anthem. The band became deeply involved in the wave of protests called the Ukrainian spring. Polish artists Enej and Maleo Reggae Rockers then recorded their own “Brat za brata” with Kozak System as a gesture of solidarity with Ukraine.

Kozak System’s second studio album, “Żywy i luby”, appeared in 2015. In Poland, it was released as “Kochaj i żyj” and included “Kolorowe jarmarki”, recorded with Maryla Rodowicz, and a new version of “Brat za brata”, recorded with Enej and Darek Malejonek. The group’s third album, “Nie moja”, followed in 2018: nine excellent, energetically played tracks confirming the band’s superb form.

Kozak System headlined New Year's Eve 2017 in Wrocław. Their performance brought tens of thousands of visitors from Wrocław and around the world to fever pitch and wild dancing. But club concerts are the band's true element, as we will discover on 24 November at Akademia Club!
