Independent Dub Day 2017: powerful bass and experiments across different forms of dub music
Independent Dub Day returns! After a long break, Wrocław will once again shake to powerful bass. The previous edition in 2009 became legendary thanks to its unique, bold format. Before then, Polish audiences could encounter the fascinating world of dub, one of music’s most important and experimentally open genres, almost exclusively in niche clubs or on sound-system stages accompanying outdoor reggae festivals. Independent Dub Day radically broke that mould, proving that dub deserves a full-scale indoor music festival. Low-frequency fanatics confirmed it, transforming Wrocław’s Wytwórnia Filmów Fabularnych into a dub sanctuary for one night.

Under WCK’s roof, dub will reign in every form, even the most unexpected. Alongside European dub classics, performers will present the ultra-modern face of a genre always known for breaking conventions. Dub surrounds us; it is everywhere, from Berlin techno clubs and recordings by Pet Shop Boys and Madonna to experimental free-jazz records. You can dance to it or relax with it. That is precisely why Independent Dub Day was created: rather than forcing dub into rigid formulas, it simply lets us enjoy it. And that is why it has unexpectedly been reborn.
Poland's biggest dub celebration deserves the right setting. Festival guests can recharge in the food-truck area and enjoy the finest beer from local producers and small breweries. Record stalls will recall dub's pioneering era, when vinyl releases became rarities almost as soon as they appeared.
