Dub Inc. at the 23rd Przystanek Woodstock: French reggae, hip-hop and electro dub

The colourful Dub Inc. collective, formerly Dub Incorporation, formed in Saint-Étienne in 1997. The members’ rich, diverse musical experiences and inspirations produced a highly original sound and freedom across sometimes distant genres. Traditional Eastern rhythms and melodies mingle with rich reggae, contemporary hip-hop and electro-dub. Their debut, “Dub Inc. 1.1”, appeared in May 1999, bringing almost immediate local popularity.

Two years later, still called Dub Incorporation, Dub Inc. released the acclaimed “Version 1.2.”. They began touring and building a reputation as an excellent live band. True fame arrived with 2003’s “Diversité” on Productions Spéciales. Excellent concerts and international standing enabled them to invite leading reggae singers Lyricson, Omar Perry and Steel Pulse’s David Hinds onto the next album, “Dans le décor”.

The album was produced by Sam Clayton, responsible for many classic records, including work by Steel Pulse and Brain Damage. The following albums, “Afrikya”, “Hors contrôle” and “Paradise”, received an enthusiastic public response. Their latest release is the excellent “So What”, issued last year.

After many sold-out tours, including in France and Germany, the band released a live album in 2006, also available with a concert DVD. It confirmed Dub Inc.’s calibre as a professional, extraordinarily exuberant group superbly combining classic reggae and dancehall. Their style is distinguished by the onstage dialogue between perfectly complementary singers Hakim “Bouchkour” Meridja and Aurélien “Komlan” Zohou. Their concerts are pure dynamite. Even in France, where reggae standards are very high, their star shines exceptionally brightly!
