GUITAR WORLD RECORD 2021, AS USUAL ON 1 MAY IN WROCŁAW!

30 YEARS OF CICHOŃSKI’S GUITAR BIBLE

To mark 30 years of Leszek Cichoński's educational work, we are planning a series of free lessons preparing participants for the record attempt. On Facebook and YouTube, musicians will teach guitar versions of hits such as “Hey Joe” and “Little Wing”.

The first edition of this now legendary celebration of the guitar took place in 2003. Leszek Cichoński launched the Great Guitar Orchestra, which performed Jimi Hendrix’s famous “Hey Joe” in Wrocław’s Market Square. A total of 588 guitarists played, setting a new Guinness World Record. More than a decade later, 7,423 guitar fans registered in Wrocław. In 2020, because of the coronavirus pandemic, the event’s 18th edition took place entirely online. On 1 May, an incredible 7,998 guitarists from around the world played “Hey Joe” together in their homes, gardens and on balconies, while the concert broadcast attracted more than 110,000 viewers in total, from Poland, London and Spain to the USA.

This year’s edition is planned for 1 May. “We are doing everything possible to meet in Wrocław’s Market Square,” says Leszek Cichoński. The world’s largest guitar orchestra will also play online. “Music knows no borders. We want everyone unable to come to Wrocław to have the chance to join the record attempt. This time, we are breaking the guitar world record, so playing ‘Hey Joe’ together in the square and online both count,” he adds.

This year marks 30 years since Leszek Cichoński released “Blues-Rock Guitar Workshop”, originally with cassettes and now with CDs, which became a true bible for several generations of guitarists. To celebrate this milestone in his educational work, we are preparing free online lessons. Musicians led by the guitar orchestra’s leader will teach songs to be heard on 1 May in Wrocław’s Market Square. They include Hendrix’s “Hey Joe”, “Little Wing” and “Voodoo Child” and Tadeusz Nalepa’s “Kiedy byłem małym chłopcem”. The timetable will be announced soon.
