FOR THE 22nd TIME: GUITAR WORLD RECORD 2024 IN WROCŁAW

MORE THAN 20 YEARS OF GUITAR PLAYING

On 1 May, the Market Square and its surroundings will become a guitar town, with several stages presenting the instrument’s many faces, from electric guitar, fingerstyle and flamenco to classical guitar and ukulele. There will be numerous guitar workshops, opportunities to meet and talk about guitars, amplifier presentations, masterful playing demonstrations, a place to meet the stars for autographs and photos, and a children’s area.

There will be spots for bards and buskers, demonstrations of quick guitar construction and an exhibition of portraits of guitar legends. Traditional contests for a guitar made from “anything at all” and the best guitar costume will return, and you can also perform on the special “Your 5 Minutes of Fame” stage.

In the “green guitar zone”, you will be able to generate electricity yourself to power your guitar and play! In the “guitar fashion” zone, we will photograph you and show the pictures on the large screen in Wrocław's Market Square and to the whole world online.

Registration for Guitar World Record participants will open on 1 May at 10.00 at the registration point on the southern side of Wrocław's Market Square, near the Aleksander Fredro monument. The point will be signposted, with directional arrows leading to it.

When registering, you must bring an instrument — guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, mandolin or another stringed instrument — and be able to play Jimi Hendrix's “Hey Joe” on it (5 chords: C, G, D, A, E). Playing ability may be checked in doubtful cases. Toy instruments or imitations will not be accepted for registration.

At registration, you will receive a participant wristband granting admission to the event grounds, along with an official commemorative 2024 Record Holder’s Certificate. T-shirts and other festival merchandise will also be available, as will reduced-price tickets for 3-Majówka 2024, which has accompanied the Guitar World Record attempt for years. Online registration for participants in the 2024 Guitar World Record will open in early April 2024.

Advance registration simplifies signing up on site in Wrocław. Every participant must still confirm participation in person at designated registration points. All you need to play at the Guitar World Record is a guitar and knowledge of five basic chords, C/G/D/A/E, for Jimi Hendrix’s “Hey Joe”. You need not be an adult. All guitars count: acoustic, classical, electric and bass. Mandolins, banjos and ukuleles are also permitted.

Electric guitarists will have a dedicated area with access to power; bringing an extension lead with a multi-socket adaptor is recommended. Concerts by invited guests and the collective playing will begin at 10:00. We will play across several stages, with something of interest for every guitar enthusiast. As always, the record-attempt song is Jimi Hendrix’s “Hey Joe”, but we will also play other guitar hits together.

Participant registration closes definitively at around 15.45, followed by the final rehearsal of the shared performance of “Hey Joe”. Do not leave registration until the last moment!

At precisely 16.00, we begin the OFFICIAL ATTEMPT to set a new GUITAR WORLD RECORD A.D. 2024! At around 16.15, this year's official result will be announced, we will play an encore together and the Market Square event will end.
