GUITAR WORLD RECORD COMING ON 1 MAY 2022

Over more than a decade, Dire Straits released 6 studio albums, alongside compilations and live albums. Total sales of their records exceeded 120 million. The band were a constant presence at the top of the charts and received numerous music awards. Songs such as “Walk of Life”, “Money For Nothing” and “Romeo and Juliet” became timeless classics and are still played by radio stations worldwide.

Dire Straits ceased to exist in 1995 and played their last concert in 1992. Band members made numerous attempts to persuade frontman Mark Knopfler to reunite, without success. In 2008, they therefore formed the supergroup Dire Straits Legacy, bringing together Dire Straits members, session musicians and players who accompanied the band on tour.

Dire Straits Legacy’s Wrocław concert will be a unique opportunity to hear the greatest hits of the British guitar legends. DSL will perform with keyboardist Alan Clark, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a significant member of Dire Straits; Phil Palmer, regarded as one of the world’s finest guitarists, whose credits include “Dire Straits On Every Street” and “On the Night live”; drummer Danny Cummings, a close collaborator of Knopfler’s, known from “On Every Street” and “On the Night live”; saxophonist Mel Collins, heard on “Love Over Gold”, “Alchemy” and “Twisting by the Pool”; guitarist Jack Sonni, remembered by fans as the “man in the red coat” dancing across the stage on the Brothers in Arms World Tour and at the Live Aid Concert; and Primiano Di Biase, one of Italy’s most sought-after keyboard players.

The band's frontman is guitarist Marco Caviglia, one of the world's foremost authorities on Dire Straits' music and Mark Knopfler's guitar style. — We love playing together. We played a part in creating the music of Dire Straits and performed it at hundreds of concerts. This music is steeped in our souls — say the Dire Straits Legacy musicians.

Dire Straits musicians will help set a new Guitar World Record on 1 May in Wrocław's Market Square, then perform a full concert as DIRE STRAITS LEGACY at Centennial Hall as part of Wrocław's largest festival, 3-Majówka, which has accompanied guitar record attempts for years.

Polish blues legends DŻEM will also perform that day, alongside LUXTORPEDA and NOCNY KOCHANEK. The following have already confirmed their appearances at the festival on 2 and 3 May: Dutch symphonic metal stars EPICA, Finnish folk-metal band KORPIKLAANI, London trip-hop legends MORCHEEBA and Polish stars KULT, PIDŻAMA PORNO, ØRGANEK, ARTUR ROJEK, DARIA ZAWIAŁOW, NOSOWSKA, MERY SPOLSKY and BRODKA. Discounted concert tickets will be available for guitarists taking part in the record attempt.
