On 5 February, Stary Klasztor's Gothic Hall will host Erith, Rycerzyki, Chillove, Kayte, Women For Hire and Gypsy and the Acid Queen! Expect musical surprises, unexpected sounds and, above all, wonderful music! Radio RAM music journalist Maciej Szabatowski will host.

Erith is the alias of Martyna Biłogan, a new hope of Polish alternative music. The Gliwice artist combines electronic and acoustic sounds with sophisticated folk with extraordinary ease. She writes her own lyrics and composes music recorded in her apartment. After publishing a few tracks online, she swiftly attracted music-industry attention. Both her fantastic, ethereal voice, recalling Björk, Stina Nordenstam and Sibylle Baier, and her composing talent were appreciated. The Dumplings and Coals musicians are fans, surely the best recommendation possible.

Rycerzyki, meanwhile, are a Kraków sextet playing alternative, melodic pop. The band comprises Gosia Zielińska on vocals, Karol Jadach and Maciek Pitala on guitars, Michał Mierzwa on keyboards, Agnieszka Grzegorczyk on drums and Aleksander Margasiński on bass and production. They belong to the Stajnia Sobieski collective, sharing a rehearsal room and instruments with acts including Die Flöte and Kaseciarz. Rycerzyki’s first song, “Mating Season”, released in 2012, caused considerable excitement among independent music critics. “This could be the debut of the year,” predicted Katowice’s OFF Festival, which hosted Rycerzyki on the Main Stage of its anniversary edition. The band’s long-awaited debut album appeared in September 2015.

Chillove is a musical project created by Anna Szul from Krosno and Waldemar Maszyński from Oława. Both graduated from music schools, and their paths crossed in Wrocław. In 2014, they began playing their own interpretations of well-known jazz, soul and pop hits in Wrocław clubs. Their love of these genres led to the entirely original album “Great Deal”, recorded in a home studio without label or sponsor support. Their music synthesises many genres, reflecting numerous, often very distant inspirations. They are one of those wonderful Polish duos you have yet to hear live.

Kayte are another equally original and noteworthy duo. Spacious sounds, catchy melodies, electrifying guitar, excellent rhythms and, above all, the ukulele popularised by Amanda Palmer. Kate, or Kasia Gałkowska, an environmental-protection and interior-design student and distinctive singer, also composes and writes lyrics alongside playing this instrument. Kay, Jarek Bogusz, is a self-taught, extraordinarily talented and inventive guitarist with immense expression, who honed his skills touring Brazil with a Red Hot Chili Peppers covers band. Discover just how potent this combination is.

Women For Hire are a Wrocław electronic trio who debuted with “Time To Waste”, an EP warmly received by the media and listeners. Its singles were praised by Brand New Anthem and Porcys among others, featured in programmes by Novika and Dawid Podsiadło, and received regular airplay on Wrocław’s Radio RAM. In April 2015, the band were invited to Spring Break, where they played their first concert. The group comprises brothers Mateusz and Krzysztof Malart and singer Zofia Wypychowska. Their tracks are classic songs immersed in synthesiser and guitar sounds, while live performances reveal the trio’s exciting, dance-oriented side.

The Stary Klasztor stage will also welcome Gypsy and the Acid Queen, Kuba Jaworski’s solo project. Looped vocals, guitar sounds and beatboxing draw listeners into a hypnotic trance. Psychedelic, meandering melodies come straight out of the seventies, while a voice casually tells a story from another world. A unique atmosphere and an almost transcendental experience are guaranteed. Just as in the Tina Turner song from which the project takes its name, all you have to do is trust the music: extraordinary experiences await.
