Boban and Marko Marković Orchestra at Eter: fifteen musicians and a Serbian brass orchestra

Boban and Marko Marković lead the fifteen-piece brass orchestra featured in the concert announcement for Wrocław’s Eter. Serbian and Romani traditions meet in the sound of the group from Vladičin Han, also familiar from the films “Underground” and “Arizona Dream”.

One of the world's most admired orchestras, known from Emir Kusturica's films “Underground” and “Arizona Dream”, will perform at Wrocław's Eter club on 6 June. Their concert forms part of Ethno Jazz Festival, well known to Wrocław audiences.

Boban Marković's band, the quintessential Balkan brass orchestra from Vladicin Han in southern Serbia, is once again establishing itself as Serbia's leading band, a title first bestowed on it in the late 1980s. Performed by a 15-piece orchestra, their music is inspired by Romani songs while also leaning towards other musical and cultural roots close to Romani traditions.

Boban and his orchestra have already won all of Serbia’s most prestigious honours for musicians: “Master of the Trumpet” twice, “Golden Trumpet”, “First Trumpet”, “Best Orchestra” and “Best Concert”. The band received most of these awards at the famous Dragacevski Sabor festival in Guča, southern Serbia, amid fierce competition and before an audience of nearly 300 thousand. The judges awarding “First Trumpet”, the highest honour known among Serbia’s brass players, gave Boban the award unanimously at Dragacevski Sabor 2001, with a score of 10:10, something that had not happened since 1961.

In 2002, Boban’s son Marko Marković joined the band, proving excellent in the frontman role.
