WINDRAP! ORCHESTRA VIDEO – ZNAMY SIĘ TAK KRÓTKO
The video for “Znamy się tak krótko” premiered on 30 March, promoting Narodowa Orkiestra Dęta's first album, “WINDRAP! Orchestra”. Poland's first symphonic wind orchestra, conducted by Mariusz Dziubek, invited leading Polish rappers to collaborate, accompanied by excellent producers and composers. The album is full of surprising musical combinations and guest appearances by Poland's finest performers.

Combining genres proved a natural process
Jazz and pop singer Maria Sadowska sings on “Znamy się tak krótko”. Polish hip-hop pioneer Liroy and NO LOGO also guest. The song draws on the finest traditions of Polish jazz-inflected pop, where the funky sounds familiar to rappers have always played an enormous role.
Video director Bartek Bartos was inspired by the famous performance by Serbian artist Marina Abramović, who spent more than 700 hours looking into strangers’ eyes at New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). Here, within a circle formed by the orchestra’s musicians, Sadowska exchanges looks with her husband, Adrian Łabanowski, NO LOGO’s leader and the song’s author. The couple met at a reggae festival 15 years ago, and both agree it was love at first sight. On the video set, they had the chance to discover how powerful that gaze remains and how much can be communicated through the eyes.
The silent musicians of Narodowa Orkiestra Dęta and their leader, Mariusz Dziubek, gradually join Maria and Adrian. More and more glances meet, and a whole range of emotions emerges. Bartek Bartos wanted to capture, in miniature, the energy surrounding Abramović’s experiment. Afterwards, everyone featured in the video agreed that it had been a unique experience, and that there was considerable truth in the familiar theory that looking deeply into someone’s eyes for a minute is enough to form a bond. “In a wind orchestra, during rehearsals and concerts, eye contact becomes a reliable means of communication. We constantly look at one another and communicate in this way, because we cannot speak while playing wind instruments,” says NOD saxophonist Seweryn Graniasty.
“Eyes are the notes; the soul is their score,” confirms National Wind Orchestra leader Mariusz Dziubek.
The video will be available on the Orchestra’s official YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/W2bZ_G4wMZw) and Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/NODLubin).
