Les Ejectés at Wrocław’s Łykend: a French reggae band with roots in ska
The French reggae offensive on Wrocław continues. On 11 October, Łykend will host veterans of the French reggae scene. Do not be misled by their lengthy stage experience, however. There is nothing routine about their performances, despite almost a thousand concerts to their name. They have also visited Poland before, captivating audiences every time.

“Playing a concert makes sense and is enjoyable when it's like being on a tennis court: you send the ball over and it comes back to you. In Poland it's different again. We send one ball over and two come back!” singer Steff said during one of the band's visits to Poland. It is hard to find a better endorsement of Polish audiences, or of Les Ejectes themselves.
The band formed 16 years ago and began with ska, the style of their first album, “Glauque City Tei”. Ska still echoes through their records, but Les Ejectes’ musical identity has changed. Rap, ragga, reggae, dub, funk and rock now also define their work. “Ragga Protest Songs” won recognition on the dub-reggae scene, soon leading to collaboration with Mad Professor, who mixed one track on the next album, “Gangsta Skanka”.
Les Ejectes are probably France’s most frequently performing band, averaging a concert every 2–3 days. Beyond France, they have played Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, the United States and even Reykjavik. Polish visits included smaller places as well as major cities, including City Days in Krotoszyn and Dzierżoniów. They have appeared with major reggae, funk and hip-hop stars Skatalites, Beastie Boys and Mano Negra, and even Deep Purple.
This autumn, the eight-member band will release its eighth album, accompanied by a DVD looking back over the group’s work so far.
The eight-piece Les Ejectes' performance is another opportunity to hear exuberant, joyful French reggae live. Surely you have already discovered that French fits Jamaican music like a glove?
Support: Wroclaw Crew
A sound system comprising two Wrocław groups: Selektaz and Mouse Studio. The former consists of Bobo Dread and Senselecta, pioneers of sound-system parties in the city. Their first events began in 2000, with occasional appearances at several clubs. A year later, they settled at Madness, inviting Polish and international stars and appearing alongside Gentleman, Caveman Sound, Da Killa and Bass Medium, among others. After joining forces with Mouse Studio, they won the audience award at the first nationwide 100% Vinyl Reggae Dancehall Clash in Kraków.
Mouse Studio is a three-piece act — Da Mouse, Nimba and Kamila — playing their own dancehall, reggae and hip-hop backing tracks since 2000. They also perform their own interpretations of Jamaican classics. At Wroclaw Crew events, Mouse Studio enrich performances with computer-generated effects and vocals.
