Every year on 1 May, thousands of guitarists meet in Wrocław

The Guitar World Record is an annual guitar celebration and, above all, an opportunity to play together, meet and exchange experiences, while also setting a new world record for the number of guitarists playing together.

Every year on 1 May, thousands of guitarists meet in Wrocław to perform Jimi Hendrix’s great hit “Hey Joe” and other songs together in the world’s largest guitar orchestra. The Guitar World Record belongs to us: in 2019, 7,432 people played together in Wrocław’s Market Square! In the pandemic year of 2020, 7,988 guitars joined together online! The shared playing is accompanied by star concerts and distinguished guests. Those who have played with us include Deep Purple, Al Di Meola, Ten Years After, Tommy Emmanuel, Europe, The Animals and Steve Vai, alongside Polish stars such as Perfect, Dżem, TSA and Acid Drinkers.

Many new guitar attractions are being prepared for this milestone anniversary, so it is well worth joining us right from the event’s beginning.

Participant registration begins at 10.00 at the registration points in the Market Square. All formalities will be completed on site; no advance registration is required. Bring an identity card, school ID or another document. You do not have to be an adult to play with us. Participation in the Guitar World Record attempt is FREE!

At registration, you will receive a participant wristband and an official commemorative Record Holder Certificate 2022. T-shirts, other festival merchandise and discounted tickets for star concerts will also be available to purchase.

To play in the Guitar World Record Online, you only need a guitar and the five basic chords C/G/D/A/E required for Jimi Hendrix’s “Hey Joe”.

Every type of guitar counts towards the record: acoustic, classical, electric and bass. Mandolins, banjos and ukuleles are also allowed. A special area with power access will be provided for electric guitarists; bringing an extension lead with multiple sockets is recommended. A Guitar Dwarfs Zone will be prepared for the youngest guitarists.

Concerts by invited guests and shared music-making begin at 10. We will play on several stages, and every guitar enthusiast will find something interesting. We will share programme details soon.

Instructions for learning the songs we will play together on 1 May can be found at www.leszekcichonski.pl/rozgrzewka

It is best to learn all the songs, but playing “Hey Joe” together matters most: this is the song counted towards the Guitar World Record.

Participant registration closes definitively at around 15.45, followed by the final rehearsal of the shared performance of “Hey Joe”. Do not leave registration until the last moment!

At precisely 16.00, we begin the OFFICIAL ATTEMPT to set a new GUITAR WORLD RECORD A.D. 2022! At around 16.15, this year's official result will be announced, we will play an encore together and the Market Square event will end.

At 17.00, the Concert of Stars begins as part of 3-MAJÓWKA 2022, accompanying this year's record attempt. Performing in the Centennial Hall and Pergola complex at ul. Wystawowa 1 will be DIRE STRAITS LEGACY, a band featuring musicians from the original Dire Straits line-up, and Polish stars DŻEM, LUXTORPEDA and NOCNY KOCHANEK.

Also confirmed for the festival on 2 and 3 May are EPICA, Dutch symphonic metal stars; KORPIKLAANI, the Finnish folk metal band; MORCHEEBA, London trip-hop legends; and Polish stars KULT, PIDŻAMA PORNO, ØRGANEK, ARTUR ROJEK, DARIA ZAWIAŁOW, NOSOWSKA, MERY SPOLSKY and BRODKA.

Discounted concert tickets will be available for guitarists taking part in the record attempt. They may be purchased only during participant registration and are valid only with a Guitar World Record 2022 wristband. They cannot be transferred to other people.

Special public transport will run between Wrocław's Market Square, where the new Guitar World Record attempt will take place, and the Pergola. Trams will leave the stop beside the underpass on ul. Świdnicka every 5 minutes from 16.30. Travel is free for guitarists. Guitars and amplifiers can be left at the Guitar Storage facility in Centennial Hall.

We invite guitarists to take souvenir photographs in Wrocław and post them online with the hashtag #gitarowyrekord.

Please also take photos of yourselves with guitars, inviting others to join the Guitar Record attempt, and post them online with the hashtags #gitarowyrekord and #zagram1maja

During the guitar event in the Market Square, we will connect online with partner locations abroad hosting events supporting the Guitar World Record 2022. There will be a continuous webcast on our website. Tell friends in Poland and abroad to watch Wrocław's guitar celebration live.

If you forget anything, do not worry: our volunteers will help with everything! See you on 1 May 2022 in Wrocław, the City of Guitar!
