Makowiecki with “Moizm” at City Sounds: a synthesiser sound at Wrocław’s Łykend
On “Moizm”, Makowiecki developed a personal, synthesiser-led sound shaped by improvisation and home recording. The announcement of his City Sounds concert at Łykend explores an album made over several years, drawing on French music and electronics.

City Sounds invites you to Łykend on 9 April for Makowiecki's concert promoting “Moizm”. With this new record, he has challenged a basic market rule: you can debut twice. “Moizm” is his fourth album, but his first to be so self-aware, personal and bold.
“Carefully crafted and polished, it was made over several years without haste. With far-from-obvious inspirations reaching into French music, and a tangible curiosity about electronica, ‘Moizm’ is a strong contender for Polish album of 2013,” Łukasz Kamiński wrote of Makowiecki's album in GW.
“Moizm” presents Makowiecki in an entirely new light: as a self-aware artist speaking in his own voice, who cannot be ignored. […] Besides, you really need to have your head screwed on to reach so deeply into Polish tradition at a time when most artists are drawing inspiration from the latest Western electronic music — Marcin Bieniek, T-Mobile Music.
“Moizm”, despite the starring role played by retro equipment, is a milestone forward for Tomek Makowiecki. A declaration of independence, a radical revolution and, at the same time, a strong contender for Polish album of the year – Angelika Kucińska, Przekrój.
Makowiecki is equally compelling on the dance single “Holidays in Rome” and the 10-minute “Dziecko szczęścia”. […] With “Moizm”, Makowiecki opens new doors — Wojciech Przylipiak, Gazeta Prawna.
The starting point was hours-long jam sessions in a wooden cottage in Kashubia, with Makowiecki refining the final synthesiser-based sound in his home studio. Three years’ work resulted in “Moizm”, an eclectic, multidimensional record and, above all, a personal interpretation of electronic music’s history. Makowiecki composed most of the tracks and produced the album, while lyrics came from Marek Jałowiecki (Delons, Generał Stilwell), Graftmann (Miss Polski) and Kuba Wandachowicz (Cool Kids Of Heath). The release’s unique character is also reflected in its guest contributors, important figures on Poland’s electronic scene: Daniel Bloom, Władysław Komendarek and Józef Skrzek.
CONCERTS: They differ from the album because the musicians allow themselves to improvise, playing expertly with sound, putting listeners into a trance and taking audiences to the magical land of 'MOIZM'. Beneath beautiful arrangements, the songs are already sung together with the audience.
The band’s musicians are:
Kuba Staruszkiewicz (Maria Peszek, previously Pink Freud) – drum machines; Patryk Stawiński (Maria Peszek, Homosapiens) – bass, synthesiser; Olek Świerkot (Dawid Podsiadło, Miss Polski, co-producer of Ania Dąbrowska's latest album) – guitar.
