One of the most intriguing figures in contemporary soul, singer, musician and producer Bilal Sayeed Oliver will come to Wrocław at the invitation of Ethno Jazz Festival. Bilal’s only concert in Poland will take place on 30 June in Stary Klasztor’s Gothic Hall.
The list of artists Bilal has worked with is impressive: it includes Kendrick Lamar, Common, Erykah Badu, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Guru, Kimbra, J Dilla, Robert Glasper and The Roots. Bilal has received four Grammy nominations, and in 2016 he won the Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Performance for his collaboration with Kendrick Lamar on “These Walls”.

He released four acclaimed albums that achieved considerable success and were warmly received by music journalists, while his unreleased but long-awaited second album, Love for Sale, also won widespread critical and audience acclaim. He belonged to Soulquarians, an experimental Black-music collective active from the late 1990s into the early 21st century. It brought together stars including Questlove, D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Common, Q-Tip, Mos Def, Talib Kweli and J Dilla. He was warmly received both at home and abroad.

In August 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Bilal wrote and recorded his first EP, “Voyage-19”, in three days, collaborating with various musicians in experimental remote sessions streamed live on YouTube. The resulting three-track EP was released digitally the following month. Sales proceeds and accompanying donations went to the participating artists, many of whom were struggling financially because of the pandemic.
