AYỌ at 3-Majówka: soul, reggae and folk from the creator of “Down On My Knees” in Wrocław
AYỌ draws on soul, reggae and folk, giving a personal character to songs such as “Down On My Knees” and “Lonely”. Her announced appearance at 3-Majówka 2018 in Wrocław was linked to the promotion of her next album.

Audience favourite AYỌ comes to promote her latest album. Her only Polish concert takes place at the 3-Majówka 2018 festival in Wrocław!
As every year, 3-Majówka opens Poland’s outdoor festival season. Wrocław’s finest festival will traditionally take place from 1–3 May. It is a truly special event where you can hear international stars, leading Polish performers and new, emerging talent. For the past two years, the festival has been linked to the Guinness Guitar Record, which has rapidly made Wrocław the European Capital of the Guitar!
Ayọ will be one of the festival’s biggest stars! The artist behind “Down On My Knees”, “And It’s Supposed To Be Love”, “Slow, Slow” and “Lonely” masterfully combines soul, reggae and folk, ranking among today’s finest singers. Her father is Nigerian and her mother Romani, while her grandmother gives her Polish roots. She therefore easily draws inspiration from different cultures and genres. Her 2006 debut, “Joyful”, went Platinum in Poland!
In 2007, international newcomer Ayọ instantly sold out an entire Polish tour! The excellent “Gravity At Last”, released a year later with smash single “Slow, Slow”, confirmed her standing. Her third album, “Billie-Eve”, named after her daughter, appeared in March 2011 to critical and fan acclaim. Two years later, she followed with “Ticket To The World”.
The material was recorded in New York with Jay Newland, the producer of the artist’s two previous albums. Once again, the record demonstrated Ayọ’s remarkable and unique style, enriching rootsy soul and folk with both more traditional world-music sounds and touches of hip-hop. In 2014, the singer won the Globe de Cristal Award for Best Female Singer. Ayọ kept her audience waiting four years for her next album.
Released in October and simply titled “Ayọ”, the album was preceded by “I'm a Fool” and “Paname”. It is this incredible artist's most personal statement to date, summing up her entire career and life's upheavals. It was recorded entirely in Ayọ's Brooklyn flat using a laptop and smartphone.
Ayọ is renowned for spectacular, captivating concerts, as Polish audiences have experienced many times. Her 3-Majówka appearance will undoubtedly be no different! Bands confirmed so far include Kult, Perfect, The Dumplings, Ørganek, Nocny Kochanek and Pidżama Porno. Many more will follow, because the long May weekend always brings a whole galaxy of outstanding Polish and international artists to Wrocław!
