Woodkid in Wrocław: the creator of “Iron” and “The Golden Age” in the WrocLove Fest programme

The French producer, performer, singer and music video director better known as Woodkid comes to the capital of Lower Silesia in June to perform at Hala Orbita as part of WrocLove Fest 2014.

Watching the videos for Lana Del Rey’s “Blue Jeans”, Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” or Drake and Rihanna’s “Take Care”, you probably had no idea that they were created by French director of Polish origin Yoann Lemoine, known as Woodkid. He made his musical debut in March 2011 with “Iron”, creating its video himself. The video has attracted almost 26 million YouTube views, while the song was chosen as the theme for the “Assasin’s Creed: Revelations” game trailer and appeared in a trailer for “Hitchcock”. Its lyrics also inspired fashion house Dior to name a collection “A Soldier On My Own”.

More than a year after his debut EP, another appeared, “Run Boy Run”, bringing a further hit that later received a memorable video. Finally, in March 2013, Woodkid’s first album, “The Golden Age”, went on sale, inspired largely by a childhood spent in Poland and by communism. The artist says the story it tells is the process of moving from childhood to adulthood and the changes that occur in body and soul. He also created a character for the videos who grows up with each successive song. “The Golden Age” ranked highly in lists of 2013’s most important albums.

Polish audiences have already had three opportunities to see the artist. His concerts are captivating spectacles, filled with the baroque richness of brass, piano, drums and strings, alongside his smooth, deep voice. He will appear in Wrocław for the first time on a special occasion, as part of the Wroclove city celebrations. The concert will take place at Hala Orbita on 10 June.
