Voo Voo: rock, jazz and folk from around the world in the sound of a band with Karim Martusewicz
Voo Voo has developed a distinctive language between rock, jazz and folk from different parts of the world. The Eter concert preview in Wrocław introduced a band whose pulse is shaped by Karim Martusewicz and Michał Bryndal, with Mateusz Pospieszalski expanding its sound.

On 10 April, Wrocław's Eter club will host Voo Voo, one of the most important and original bands in Polish music history. For 30 years they have been forging new paths, bringing together very different musical worlds and remaining a constant inspiration for creative exploration. Rock combined with jazz and folk from different parts of the world has proved an inexhaustible formula, bringing their fans extraordinary joy and satisfaction.
The group formed in Warsaw in 1985, founded by composer, lyricist, guitarist and singer Wojciech Waglewski. Composer and virtuoso saxophonist Mateusz Pospieszalski has been part of Voo Voo almost from the beginning. The rhythm section, the band's heart, consists of Karim Martusewicz on bass guitar and double bass, and drummer Michał Bryndal.
Each successive Voo Voo album has become an extraordinary journey through different corners of the rock world, usually venturing beyond rock’s boundaries. Their latest is no exception. This time, Voo Voo travelled as far as Azerbaijan and began working with Alim Qasimov, who guests on their newest recordings. Qasimov is an exceptional figure: a master of mugham, Azerbaijan’s indigenous musical tradition, passed down orally through generations, and the recipient of numerous awards for his unique vocal talent. Recorded with Qasimov, “Dobry wieczór” contains 10 trance-like, shimmering and naturally improvisational tracks, masterfully combining melody, harmony, rhythm and Waglewski’s guitar. It is regarded as the most shamanic album in the group’s history. The Wrocław concert will be a wonderful opportunity to see Voo Voo at their best.
