Tito Paris at the synagogue: Cape Verdean morna and a musical tribute to Cesária Évora

On 12 June, Tito Paris will perform at Wrocław’s White Stork Synagogue as part of a joint Ethno Jazz Festival and Siesta w Studio project.

Fado star Mariza called him the finest voice from Cabo Verde, one of the most extraordinary, and recorded a duet with him on her album “Terra”. In his home country, he is known as “A treasure, the beloved child of the island of Sao Vincente”. Who better to pay tribute to Cesaria Evora, the great Cape Verdean artist who died last year, than her fellow countryman, Tito Paris?

The Wrocław concert will pay tribute to the great Cesária, offering an evening of wistful Cape Verdean morna.

Tito Paris was born and raised in Cape Verde but has lived in Lisbon for years. There he ran the famous Club B. Leza, which hosted legendary concerts featuring many stars of Cape Verdean music. He has performed with Anna Firmino, Mariza, Maria Joao Quadros, Nancy Vieira, Otis and Paulo Flores, as well as Anna Maria Jopek.

He has recorded several albums, four of which have been featured on “Siesta”: “Graca de tchega” (1996), “Live in Lisbon at Club B. Leza” (1998), “Acustico” (2007) and “Acustico Aula Magna” (2010). He has guested on other artists' records, including “Fado Mulato” (Maria Joao Quadros), Lus (Nancy Vieira), “Mozamverde” (Otis), “Sobremesa” (Anna Maria Jopek), Terra (Mariza) and “Xe Povo” (Paulo Flores).

He represents Cape Verdean music on compilations including “Novo Homem na Cidade”, “Putumayo Presents: Cape Verde”, SIESTA 4. Muzyka Świata, SIESTA 5. Muzyka Świata and SIESTA 7.
