SKA-P at Przystanek Woodstock: “99%” and a Spanish blend of punk, reggae and ska

SKA-P combine punk, reggae and ska in the announcement for the 20th Przystanek Woodstock, introducing “99%”. Its fifteen songs develop the Spanish group’s social protest, with rock guitars and brass emphasising the stories in “Marinaleda” and “Maquis”.

Fans have been waiting a long time for this news. Finally, with undisguised joy, we can announce that SKA-P, one of Europe's most important alternative music bands, will perform at the forthcoming Przystanek Woodstock! The timing could not be better, as the group return with a new album confirming their place on the world scene.

Almost five years after ‘Lágrimas y Gozos’, SKA-P return with a new record, ‘99%’. Its spectacular sound comes courtesy of Tony Lopez, the producer behind the band’s previous albums.

“99%” cries out against overwhelming social oppression, calling for struggle against speculators, looters, persecutors and liars. SKA-P refuse silence before financial brutality and redundancies, a reality where a minority controls the majority through an economic system designed to exploit people. Mincing no words, they expose the economic dictatorship and argue that struggle and revolution are the only solutions for nations losing hope.

“99%” contains 15 tracks that leave no room for doubt. A solid musical foundation combines with extraordinary guitar work, finding the perfect balance between rock's power, punk's aggression, reggae's relaxation and ska's rhythm. An impressive brass section and spectacular vocals enrich it all, creating SKA-P's unique sound.

“Victoria”, “Ska-Pa”, “Se Acabó”, “Pandemia” and “Ciudadano Papagayo” feature a mixture of sounds gathered on international tours. “Marinaleda” is a true anthem to a revolution won by a small town resisting invaders, while “Maquis” pays tribute to those fighting fascism. There is also a protest against the omnipresent Big Brother watching and invading our privacy, “Bajo Vigilancia”, and a reminder of a continent forgotten by the international community, “Africa Agónica”.

SKA-P once again prove they are one of the most important bands on the European music scene. The group embarks on an international tour carrying a message of struggle, revolution and freedom for a new, better world.
