Nomi Ruiz opens for CocoRosie in Wrocław: the voice of “You Belong” in a club setting

Nomi Ruiz, former singer of New York’s Hercules & Love Affair, supports CocoRosie on their European tour!

We discovered her distinctive androgynous beauty and deep-set voice through “You Belong”, one of the catchiest singles from Hercules and Love Affair's debut. Recorded by Andrew Butler for the respected DFA Records label, the album also took Ruiz herself to the top of dance music charts towards the end of the last decade.

Closely linked to New York’s scene, Nomi regularly guested with Antony & The Johnsons, Debbie Harry, Amanda Blank and Peaches. Ruiz also recorded the house-and-disco “See The Light” two years ago with former Hercules & Love Affair musicians Andrew Raposo and Morgan Wiley. According to initial information, CocoRosie’s European tour will reveal an entirely new, club-oriented Nomi Ruiz.

COCOROSIE

The duo CocoRosie formed in Paris and have attracted attention for more than a decade through their broad range of inspirations, both purely musical, from hip-hop and reggae to folk and opera, and social, reflected in their lyrics. Alongside their extraordinarily colourful musical talent, the Cassady sisters have long offered sharp, bitter observations on the absurdities and injustices of today’s world. These undisputed stars, hailed as a revelation of freak folk and the New Weird America scene, return to Poland with their new album, “Tales of a GrassWidow”. Their Wrocław concert is organised by LIONSTAGE Management.
