NOA, or Achinoam Nini: an Israeli voice with Yemeni roots and a collaboration with Gil Dor
NOA, or Achinoam Nini, connects Israeli experience with Yemeni roots through a dialogue between voice and guitar. Work with Gil Dor shapes her repertoire, while “Noa”, produced by Pat Metheny, opened another chapter in her international musical path.

NOA, or Achinoam Nini, was born in Israel in 1969 into a family of Yemeni origin. She lived in New York in the United States until she was 17. Returning to Israel, she completed two years of compulsory service in the Israeli army. She then began studying at the renowned Rimon School of Jazz and Contemporary Music in Tel Aviv, where she met famous guitarist and composer Gil Dor. Their first album, “Achinoam Nim and Gil Dor Live in Concert”, appeared in 1991, followed two years later by another that launched their international musical career.
Her talent and artistic honesty caught the attention of outstanding musicians including Quincy Jones, Sting and Pat Metheny, who produced her album “Noa” (1994).
The international hit “I don’t know” comes from this album. Noa wins hearts worldwide, even among audiences unfamiliar with her, thanks to her powerful voice and music's emotional message.
“Noa’s songs are so unbelievably perfect that you wonder whether they fell from heaven…” The Washington Post.
