THE NATIONAL WIND ORCHESTRA, DAGADANA AND ŁONA ON NECESSITIES AND LUXURY
Do we always want more, are we getting carried away, and what is a luxury rather than a basic need? These are among the questions Dagadana and Łona explore in “Luksus”, a single promoting “WINDRAP! Orchestra”, due for release on 22 April. Blending hip-hop, pop and jazz with music performed by Narodowa Orkiestra Dęta in Lubin, the project also involves Liroy, Abradab, Rahim, Maria Sadowska and NO LOGO, among others.

What happens when Poland’s first symphonic wind orchestra joins forces with some of the country’s best rappers, producers and composers? The WINDRAP! Orchestra singles released so far, “Znamy się tak krótko”, featuring jazz and pop singer Maria Sadowska, Polish hip-hop pioneer Liroy and born live performers NO LOGO, and “Malkontent”, on which Abradab, Rahim and Kleszcz teamed up with NOD, prove that daring to mix seemingly distant musical worlds pays off.
The third song promoting the project is “Luksus”, featuring Daga from Polish-Ukrainian group Dagadana and Łona, one of the most interesting representatives of so-called intellectual rap, with the orchestra led by Mariusz Dziubek. Accompanied by a video made from a collage of photographs, the song explores the needs we have in life.

Over recent years, I have increasingly felt that we do not appreciate what we have. On one hand, we enjoy luxuries such as travelling worldwide; on the other, some people take pleasure in much smaller things, like food in the fridge. This is particularly clear now, with war so close and the possibility that our actions can give someone the luxury of a roof overhead, food in a pot and, above all, dignity.
“Łona, with whom I recorded ‘Luksus’, is near the top of my ranking of Polish rap artists. I value his humanity and the fact that he is a wise person you want to learn from when listening to his songs. Working with him was a dream of mine, and I am delighted it happened. Work on this project as a whole was a fantastic experience. You can feel the orchestra’s enormous power, and I cannot wait for the results,” the artist adds.
Łona recalls working on the track:
Dagadana is no ordinary band: it is an utterly extraordinary phenomenon that has fascinated me for a long time, so I did not hesitate for a moment when the invitation to record a track together came along. We may express ourselves through somewhat different means, but we immediately found common ground. We began working on this song during the crisis at the Polish-Belarusian border and finished it after war had broken out. For me, in both situations, what matters most is not so much whether the number of people arriving is large or small, or, I don’t know, the general geopolitical context of their journey, but the people themselves: specific individuals, each with their own name and their own story. And their own face, because that is ultimately what matters most, says the rapper.
