Nancy Vieira: atmospheric Cape Verdean songs and the sound of “Lus” and “No Ama”
On 26 October, Nancy Vieira, who spent her youth in Cape Verde, will sing in Stary Klasztor's Gothic Hall. As she admits, she thinks, feels and sings as a Cape Verdean. Her melodic, atmospheric songs often mirror the islands' not always happy history.

Nancy has often appeared on the “Siesta” compilations, and her songs can also be heard on Marcin Kydryński’s Sunday programme on Radio Three. In October, we will hear her live in Wrocław at a “Siesta w drodze” musical gathering. When she was born, her parents were active in Guinea-Bissau’s resistance movement, preparing independence for their rocky, windswept islands. Years later, her heroic father became independent Cape Verde’s ambassador to Portugal and took his fourteen-year-old daughter to Lisbon. Perhaps today they both visit Casa da Morna every weekend for refreshing funana rhythms.
Nancy is considered the most stylish heir to Cesaria Evora's artistry. She performs with the legendary singer's band and appeared at the major tribute concert at Lisbon's Coliseu. Nancy's two latest albums, “Lus” and “No Ama”, are among the most beautiful gifts we have received from Cabo Verde.
