Melanie Fiona at Eter: “Monday Morning” and soul combined with R&B on “The Bridge”
On “The Bridge”, Melanie Fiona combines classic soul with R&B, pop and reggae, with “Monday Morning” becoming a signature song. The Eter concert preview introduced the Canadian singer, her Sam Cooke influences and her experience alongside Alicia Keys.
Canadian-born artist Melanie Fiona, the biggest musical discovery of the past year, will perform at Wrocław’s Eter club on 8 December.
Everyone knows Melanie Fiona’s flawless voice, not least from her latest song, “Monday Morning”, currently conquering the charts and Polish listeners’ hearts. The 27-year-old artist made her debut in 2002, recording a demo and sending it to record labels while also working as a session singer. In 2008, she appeared at Reggae Gold Festival with Supa Dups. She has already opened for Kanye West, and this year she is touring the world with Alicia Keys. Her debut album, “The Bridge”, appeared in June 2009, instantly winning huge popularity and acclaim from music critics worldwide. “Careful selection is needed to identify records that genuinely deserve attention. ‘The Bridge’ can confidently be counted among them.” – Onet.pl.
The album’s promotional single, “Give It To Me Right”, remained in international charts for a long time, while Fiona’s next hit, “It Kills Me”, earned a Grammy nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. “The Bridge” fully reflects the singer’s musical duality. As its title suggests, its songs form a bridge between classic soul, inspired by Nat ‘King’ Cole and Sam Cooke among others, and contemporary R&B, pop and reggae sounds. In an interview, Melanie Fiona said that ‘The Bridge’ breaks through ethnic, social and age barriers.
Especially for her fans, Melanie Fiona will perform her greatest hits live, including “Monday Morning”, “Give It To Me Right” and “It Kills Me”, alongside many other masterful songs such as “Walk On By”, “Bang Bang”, “Teach Him” and “Please Don’t Go (Cry Baby)”.
