Luciano at WrocLove Reggae Station: Jamaican modern roots and the singer’s soul inspirations

Luciano established himself on the international music scene in 1995 with the album “Where There is Life”, while his compositions “Who could it be”, “Stay Away”, “It’s me again Jah” and “One in a Billion”, recorded with Dub Syndicate, reached far beyond reggae. Luciano is a singer of immense talent and the highest calibre. Drawing on artists including Stevie Wonder, Frankie Paul and Dennis Brown, he has created his own unmistakable style. His extensive discography demonstrates the variety of directions he has explored since the start of his career. His compositions feature not only classic reggae and modern roots, but also influences from soul, blues, African music and even jazz.

Luciano’s achievements include a Grammy nomination and numerous awards and honours for his contributions to cultural and social life. He also received an order of merit for developing reggae worldwide. His lyrics address human concerns, often taking positions in social and political debate. He is known for his concern for life in Africa, where he has devoted considerable funds to fighting AIDS. His engaged lyrics and conscious, positive message earned him the nickname “Jah Mesenjah”, meaning God’s Messenger.

Luciano’s concerts unleash a huge wave of energy, amplified by his superb rapport with the audience, sometimes creating a veritable tsunami. Known for his physical prowess as well as his vocal ability, he can surprise spectators with moves more typical of an athlete than a musician. This powerful stage performer is unpredictable, making every appearance different. His 2004 concert in Poznań is still considered one of Poland’s greatest reggae events. Let us hope that his Wrocław appearance, opening the WrocLove Reggae Station series, will also go down in history as an exceptional success. In Wrocław, Luciano will be accompanied by Austrian band Iriepathie, with whom he is promoting his latest album, “Rub-a-Dub Market”, in Europe.
