L.U.C plays Chopin at Eter: “Loop Chopin” between classical music, hip-hop and new jazz

On 5 December at Wrocław's Eter, Łukasz L.U.C Rostkowski, this year's Polityka Passport winner, will deconstruct Chopin's music at the request of various cultural institutions and present his own club project inspired by the great master's works. It will be the material's first Wrocław presentation.

Łukasz L.U.C Rostkowski, Wrocław music producer, composer, performer, lyricist and director, has prepared L.U.C LOOP CHOPIN this year at the request of the Gdańsk Festival of Choirs and the City of Wrocław. Pronounced “Look Loop Sho-pan”, it is an unconventional, club-oriented and even danceable adaptation of Chopin’s music. For several years, this young artist has been combining contemporary trip-hop, hip-hop and new jazz with elements of classical and film music in an original way. His creative work follows a personal motto: “Music is divided only into that which beats in the rhythm of our hearts and that which misses it.”

This time, L.U.C has used short fragments of Chopin’s compositions: loops, one of the foundations of contemporary popular music. He will present a set based on personally selected and stylishly chopped Chopin sequences, using electronics and computers. He will be accompanied by Bartek Niebielecki on drums, Marcin Spera on double bass and synthesised bass, and Adaś Lepka on trumpet. “I am surprised by how monotonous and similar the interpretations of Fryderyk’s music tend to be. I would like to prove that Chopin put such an enormous amount of emotion and energy into his music that, sampled and arranged appropriately, it could move not only hearts and minds in a contemporary club, but fingers, knees and hips as well. This is my personal tribute to that sensitive soul,” says L.U.C, who was invited to remix Chopin.
