KAYAH & TRANSORIENTAL ORCHESTRA AT IMPART

17 FEBRUARY 2018

Kayah invites you on an exotic journey.

It all began with Kayah’s great musical love of world music.

The artist had long planned to record an album in this style. An invitation to perform at Warszawa Singera provided the impetus to begin. The extraordinary Transoriental Orchestra project was created especially for that one concert. Kayah invited film composer and music producer Atanas Valkov to collaborate. Together, they chose outstanding instrumentalists and soloists of Polish, Ukrainian and Iranian origin, further broadening the musical dialogue and giving the project a truly multicultural character. The ensemble’s instrumentation includes unusual instruments such as hammered dulcimers, santur, oud, saz, lutes, flutes, pipes and many others.

The Transoriental Orchestra repertoire presents an enormous challenge. The album features Jewish songs from various parts of Europe and the Middle East. Naturally, this geographical diversity is reflected in the music, with Balkan, Persian, Slavic, African and, of course, Jewish sounds. Kayah also had to tackle different languages, singing in Hebrew, Yiddish, Ladino and Arabic.

Transoriental Orchestra will perform with:

• Jan Smoczyński / piano, keyboards
• Iwonka Zasuwa / vocals
• Marta Zalewska / bass, double bass
• Patrycja Napierała / percussion
• Mateusz Adamczyk / violin
• Jahiar Azim Irani /dulcimer, santur, vocals
• Jakub Niedoborek / guitars, oud, saz, lutes
• Włodzimierz Antoniw / clarinet, keyboards, electronics
