Katie Melua with Gori Women’s Choir at Hala Orbita: Georgian voices at the festival’s anniversary

The concert takes place at Wrocław’s Orbita Hall on 13 November as part of the 10th-anniversary celebrations of Ethno Jazz Festival, respected in Poland and across Europe.

Katie introduced Gori Women's Choir, masters of the ancient Georgian tradition of polyphonic singing, as “a truly unique vocal orchestra”.

At the Wrocław concert, they will perform new material from Katie Melua’s forthcoming project together, alongside a wide selection of classic songs from the artist’s repertoire.

‘The last 18 months of working with Gori Women’s Choir in Georgia have been very inspiring. I’m incredibly excited about our tour together across the UK and Europe this winter,’ says Katie.

Gori Women’s Choir was founded in 1970 at the Gori Music School led by Teona Tsiramua. UNESCO has officially recognised Georgian polyphonic singing as part of humanity’s intangible cultural heritage.

Katie Melua was born in the Georgian city of Kutaisi, grew up in the seaside city of Batumi and moved to Belfast at the age of 9. Her songs combine influences from pop, folk, blues and jazz. She has so far recorded 6 studio albums, most of them multiple-platinum sellers, several live albums, and her songs have appeared on dozens of compilations.

She has achieved enormous commercial success and has a big heart. Melua is known for her charitable activities and is a goodwill ambassador for Save the Children. She publicly distances herself from show business and the pursuit of fashion, arguing that money is better spent helping the poorest.
