Jahcoustix: acoustic roots reggae, soulful songs and an album recorded with The Outsideplayers

Two years later, he began writing poems, and after receiving his first guitar he set them to music. He drew inspiration from Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Jacob Miller, but also The Doors, Alice in Chains and the Beatles. At 17, he performed publicly for the first time, in Kenya, and later played for a while in a school band.

In 1998, he completed his secondary school examinations in Kenya and returned to Germany. He recorded several guitar-accompanied tracks and sent them to various labels, eventually receiving a reply from “A-Jugend”, with whom he signed a six-month contract. In 2001, he began playing with Dubios Neighbourhood, a band formed in 1996. Their debut album, “Souljastice”, appeared in 2002.

In late November and early December 2004, he supported Patrice. The following April, he signed with Virgin Records. At the end of 2003, he supported Mellow Mark for the first time and Patrice once again. His solo album, “Coulorblind”, appeared in April 2004. Through this solo record, they managed to create a “symbiosis” between the aforementioned albums, developing their own musical style: acoustic roots reggae. They subsequently performed at Afrika Festival, Summerjam in Cologne and Chimsse Reggae Summer, among others, and undertook a week-long tour of the USA.

“Grounded” appeared in October 2006, primarily combining English-language roots reggae with “acoustic singer-songwriter soul”. His music does not tell others how to live or what to believe. As he says, he aims to give people what he feels himself, allowing them to drift away and switch off. In 2010, Jahcoustix appeared, recorded by Dominik with his new band The Outsideplayers.
