Högni Egilsson in Wrocław: the solo musical world of the Icelandic artist from GusGus
In his solo work, Högni Egilsson reveals the intimate origins of songs associated with his time in GusGus. The City Sounds announcement at Stary Klasztor introduces the Icelandic singer, multi-instrumentalist and composer for theatre and film.

Icelandic multi-instrumentalist, singer and composer Högni Egilsson, known to wider audiences from Gus Gus, comes to Poland with a solo project, presenting it on 7 December in Stary Klasztor's Gothic Hall as part of City Sounds!
This thirty-year-old artist is currently one of Iceland’s most talented and sought-after musicians. He is a member of the popular band Gus Gus, for whom he composed and sang some tracks on their two latest albums, “Arabian Horse” and “Mexico”, and toured worldwide. Högni Egilsson is also a composer and singer in the seven-piece Hjaltalin, whose achievements include numerous Icelandic music-industry awards and work with the national symphony orchestra. He also creates music for theatre and films.
His film work includes “Days Of Gray”, and he also works with the people behind the electronic project Gluteus Maximus. Egilsson is currently finishing his solo album. His unique compositional approach will combine a 40-piece male choir, a string orchestra, electronica and his own distinctive voice into a moving, richly textured whole.
“Gus Gus make electronic dance music full of bass and samples. Hjaltalin is a 7-piece band with a wide range of instruments and two vocalists. Yet the songs of these two very different bands were primarily written at home, at the piano in the living room of my quiet flat. I would like to present the songs I have written to Polish audiences in this intimate form, which gives them an entirely different, deeply emotional character.”
