Ghetto Priest and Positive Thursdays in DUB: British reggae at Reggae Nad Wartą
Ghetto Priest brings a distinctive voice to British reggae and dub through work with Adrian Sherwood and Asian Dub Foundation. Reggae Nad Wartą announced his appearance with Wrocław’s Positive Thursdays in DUB, including material from a forthcoming album.

Ghetto Priest, one of the British reggae scene’s most compelling singers and a long-time collaborator of dub master Adrian Sherwood and Asian Dub Foundation, will perform at Reggae Nad Wartą in Gorzów Wielkopolski. Renowned for his energetic performances, he will headline the festival’s second day and present material including songs from his forthcoming album. Wrocław’s Positive Thursdays in DUB will join him on stage.
Ghetto Priest is one of the most striking and creative performers to emerge on Britain’s reggae scene in the last two decades. He began in the early 1980s at local sound-system parties, honing his vocal and stage skills. His debut album, however, only appeared in 2004, produced by Adrian Sherwood himself. “Vulture Culture” immediately attracted enormous interest, not only from reggae fans but also from other producers and artists, who readily invited Ghetto Priest to record and perform with them.
The same was true with the phenomenal Asian Dub Foundation, with whom he recorded the hit album “Tank” in 2005. At that time, Ghetto Priest performed as one of the group's frontmen, travelling the world and captivating audiences with powerful vocals and almost mystical stage performances.
His voice can also be heard on Juno Reactor’s “God & Monsters”, among other albums, and he toured extensively around the world with them from 2008. Ghetto Priest is currently working on his latest album, “Sacred Ground”, once again produced by Adrian Sherwood with musical support from legendary group Dub Syndicate. After several years away, he has also returned to Asian Dub Foundation’s live line-up.
Ghetto Priest possesses an inimitable stage energy and emotional force, unique among artists of the current generation. Throughout his career, he has moved along stylistic boundaries, boldly mixing sometimes very distant genres while retaining respect for roots music. His singing style firmly upholds his Jamaican heritage.
Positive Thursdays in DUB is a musical project that emerged in late 2011 from “Pozytywne Czwartki”, a programme broadcast on Wrocław’s Academic Radio LUZ. It currently comprises music journalist and DJ Rafał Konert, trumpeter Sebastian Pachecki and trombonist Tomek Kasiukiewicz. Its main aim is to showcase the breadth of reggae and dub, which the Positive Thursdays in DUB crew present in a unique way.
Their performances offer a distinctive lesson in the history of Jamaican music. The group's sets feature tracks from reggae's golden era alongside new productions by seasoned dub artists, all accompanied by live trumpet and trombone. Combined with specially selected samples, these instruments fill the dub spaces perfectly. Carefully prepared visuals tie everything together and complete their performances.
Together, they have played and organised numerous events, including Thursday Bass Addicts, Island Bass Addicts, True Bass Addicts and 71Hz Unity, and supported legendary British reggae group Steel Pulse (2013), Dutch reggae/dub producer Twilight Circus (2012) and Polish drum ’n’ bass producer Hatti Vatti (2014). They have also performed abroad, appearing in Scotland at Wee Dub Festival 2014 and in Bulgaria at Student Camp 2013. They were the first group of their kind to play a dub session on Radio RAM in Wrocław, broadcast live directly from the drama studio.
