Geeta Chandran at Oratorium Marianum: classical Indian Bharatanatyam dance
Geeta Chandran interprets classical Indian Bharatanatyam dance through a story of truth, transformation and spiritual searching. Her announced Ethno Jazz Festival performance at Oratorium Marianum drew on the symbolism of Krishna, Shiva and Devi.

Let an ocean of beauty carry you away in a soul-stirring classical dance performance by outstanding Indian dancer Geeta Chandran.
On 16 May, at Oratorium Marianum, the University of Wrocław's grand music hall, she will reveal every facet of truth, eternity and asceticism. The Ethno Jazz Festival concert is held under the honorary patronage of India's ambassador to Poland.
In “Satyam shivam sundaram — the search for eternity”, the dancer uses dance as a metaphorical key to artistic and ascetic values in classical Hindu philosophy. Krishna's dance is the dance of Life, Shiva's the dance of Change, and Devi's the dance of Action.
Geeta Chandran is a renowned artist, dancer and choreographer associated in India mainly with the classical dance Bharatanatyam.
She began her dance journey at fifteen, training under the finest and most respected gurus. This versatile artist is valued not only for her profound understanding of Bharatanatyam, but also for her musical work as a trained singer. She also works in television and theatre, and as a choreographer and dance teacher. She has received several prestigious awards, including The Media India Award, The National Critics Award and the Lady Shri Ram College Illustrious Alumna Award.
Geeta also founded an organisation promoting Bharatanatyam, and many respected professional performers have trained under her guidance.
The artist travelled around the world with her show, dancing at many prestigious festivals in India and abroad. In 2007, she was invited to the World Hindi Conference in New York.
Through dance, Geeta Chandran primarily seeks to reach younger audiences. She aims to highlight artists’ responsibility for the world around them. Beyond obvious artistic qualities, her spectacular performances carry a message and draw attention to social problems such as drug addiction and exploitation of women. Outside dance, she participates in charity work. In recognition of her promotion of Bharatanatyam, Geeta Chandran received the prestigious Padma Shri in 2007, awarded by India’s president himself.
