Gato Preto: Gata Misteriosa and Lee Bass combine kuduro, broken house rhythms and baile funk

Gato Preto is an original, contemporary interpretation of club music, a journey echoing Angolan kuduro, British broken house, globally popular moombahton and Brazilian baile funk. This is global tropical dance music at its finest.

The Düsseldorf-based duo comprises singer Gata Misteriosa and producer and DJ Lee Bass. Their music clearly reflects their African roots, Gata’s years dancing in Portuguese clubs, Lee’s father’s funk-vinyl collection and, naturally, the finest contemporary German and British bass-heavy electronic music. Gata’s rap and vocalisations, Lee’s powerful beats and a subtle, unobtrusive aesthetic of masks and voodoo create a unique dance-floor mixture. Their highly energetic performances resemble a club-based shamanic ritual, readily inviting comparison with the famous Buraka Som Sistema.
