Emika at City Sounds: dark electronics, “Dva” and specially prepared 3D visuals

Emika connects her classical piano training with dark electronic music developed between Bristol and Berlin. The preview of the autumn City Sounds opening paired her album “Dva” with specially prepared 3D visuals for the performance.

A performance by EMIKA, the British producer and singer associated with cult label Ninja Tune, will open City Sounds’ autumn season.

British-born Ema Jolly, known as EMIKA, makes no secret of her Czech roots. Her first steps in the music business came as an intern at Ninja Tune, one of the British independent labels most highly regarded in Poland. It was also Ninja Tune that released her debut album two years ago, featuring “Double Edge” and “Drop The Other”, singles warmly welcomed by fans of dark electronic music.

Her classical education in piano and composition, combined with a fascination for new sounds, enabled her to create something entirely new musically. Built on a classical framework, EMIKA's songs combine deep, dark British dub/dubstep sounds, clear electro influences and pop sensitivity.

The places EMIKA has lived over recent years also seem significant to her work. In Bristol, she witnessed the strengthening of Britain's dubstep scene. A few years later, after moving from England, she became fascinated by Berlin's techno scene.

Sensual and electrifying on stage, EMIKA always takes care to enrich the visual side of her performances. The Wrocław concert, featuring 3D visuals prepared by the artist, will form part of her European tour promoting her latest album, “Dva”.
