David Murray Infinity Quartet at Eter: saxophone, free jazz and “Be My Monster Love”

Grammy-winning American saxophonist David Murray will be a guest at the autumn Ethno Jazz Festival. On 9 November, David Murray Infinity Quartet will perform at Eter music club on ul. Kazimierza Wielkiego.

Infinity Quartet is the band of one of the world’s most important saxophonists, a superb improviser with traditional rhythm-and-blues roots.

David Murray, born in 1955, is an exceptionally active saxophonist and bass clarinettist with more than a hundred albums as a leader, one of the foremost representatives of New Black Tradition and co-founder of the legendary World Saxophone Quartet (1977).

The original arrangements and bold, unpredictable solos in Murray’s performances draw on both traditional rhythm-and-blues and gospel roots and the free-jazz fascinations that make him one of contemporary jazz’s greatest innovators. His talent and intriguing approach to improvisation have made him one of the world’s most sought-after musicians. He has worked with McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones, Cassandra Wilson, Curtis Clark, Billy Bang, Fred Hopkins, Phil Wilson, Jack DeJohnette, Arthur Blythe and James “Blood” Ulmer.

The latest album, Be My Monster Love, released this year, features guest appearances from soul star Macy Gray and outstanding trumpeter Bobby Bradford. Material from this album will receive its premiere performance at the Wrocław concert.
