Felix Kubin and Mitch & Mitch at City Sounds: electronics meet an experimental big band

City Sounds invites you to a concert promoting Mitch&Mitch’s new album with German electronic music legend Felix Kubin.

The concert takes place on 6 May at the recently opened Stary Klasztor music club, soon to become a new concert centre in our city. Its excellent location beside the Market Square, at ul. Purkyniego 1, and old Gothic interiors are sure to appeal to Wrocław audiences.

In autumn 2013, formaldehyde electronaut Felix Kubin and the incredible Mitch & Mitch big band met in their Warsaw and Hamburg studios for an electro-acoustic experiment: producing an avant-pop sound-library album. They invited legendary German producer Tobias Levin to act as an electrical conduit within their complex circuit. Facing the Moon’s dark side, hearts full of artistic synthesis, they plunged into anxiety’s depths, sharpened their lenses and peered into electric voodoo.

Having completed the project’s delta phase, documented on stereo recordings by underground yet fully legal laboratories Lado ABC and Gagarin Records, Felix Kubin and Mitch & Mitch enter the next phase: “sonic presentations”, or the “litmus test”. At the turn of 2013 and 2014, this big-band X-ray music reaches European cities as a ten-piece combo with sophisticated instrumentation. Alongside that material, they present special arrangements of earlier Felix Kubin and Mitch & Mitch works.

Inspirations: the BBC radio studio, Czech and Polish film music, Stockhausen, Stockholm, stroboscopes, the KPM music library, Raymond Scott, Daphne Oram, Jerzy Woźniak, Philips laboratories, Electric Voodoo, medical catastrophes, Ultimate Flu, electrocardiographs, X-rays, attenuators, Wagner backwards, Mambo Mortale, sequencers, musique concrète, indecisive music, underwater dishes, explosions, earthquakes, maximum production capacity, hotel-lift music, electric toothbrushes, electric shavers, electric chairs, furry animals, radio dramas and ominous reverberation.
