Bowie Starman: a tribute to David Bowie and his hits at Wrocław’s guitar celebration
Bowie Starman revisits different chapters of David Bowie’s music, from “China Girl” to “Ashes to Ashes”. The Guinness Guitar Record 2020 preview connected this repertoire with Gerry Leonard, the guitarist who worked with Bowie.
January will mark four years since the death of David Bowie, one of the most important figures on the contemporary music scene. David Bowie became famous as a singer, composer, lyricist, multi-instrumentalist, music producer, arranger, actor and excellent guitarist.
We will revisit his work on 1 May at the world's largest gathering of guitarists, the Guinness Guitar Record 2020. Gerry Leonard, David Bowie's legendary guitarist, will present the extraordinary Bowie Starman musical project in Wrocław!
“A spiritual musical legacy and a direct message from David Bowie”: that is how concertgoers and media representatives who have seen Bowie Starman live describe it. Bowie Starman's concert at the Guinness Guitar Record 2020 is a tribute to the legendary musician, who died on 10 January 2016.
Gerry Leonard and the band will take us on a musical journey through every decade of David Bowie’s work. Audiences will enter the hypnotic world of classics from “Rebel Rebel”, “China Girl”, “Let’s Dance”, “Young Americans” and “Ashes To Ashes” to “Life On Mars”. Everyone who has experienced Bowie Starman’s musical feast agrees that the legend’s music is in the finest hands. Hearing the project, Bowie’s bassist from 1983–1987, Carmine Rojas, said plainly: “Perfect sound and perfect feeling keep Bowie’s music alive.”
“Great musicianship, high-quality interpretation and enthusiasm make their performances an alternative to real Bowie concerts. David would have loved them,” said Lesley-Ann Jones, a long-standing friend who joined one of David's tours and wrote the bestseller “HERO: David Bowie”.

Project leader Gerry Leonard is a figure of great importance in rock history. His list of musical collaborations is impressive. He performed and recorded with David Bowie, and has also toured and recorded with artists including Roger Waters, Suzanne Vega, Rufus Wainwright, Laurie Anderson, Duncan Sheik, Cyndi Lauper, Avril Lavigne and many others. When not touring with international stars, he leads his own project, Spooky Ghost.
Bowie Starman will appear in Poland for the first time. Visuals featuring David Bowie will accompany the performances.
The concert takes place on 1 May at Centennial Hall in Wrocław as part of 3-Majówka 2020, which accompanies the annual Guitar Guinness World Record attempt.
