Avishai Cohen at Impart: the Israeli jazz musician known for working with Chick Corea

Ethno Jazz Festival invites you to Impart's theatre hall on 9 May for a concert by Israel's Avishai Cohen, one of jazz's most important musicians. In Wrocław, he will present material from his latest album, “1970”, alongside songs already familiar to audiences from earlier records.

A double-bass genius, among the past decade’s most interesting and sought-after jazz musicians. Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and Bobby McFerrin have recognised his talent. Down Beat called him a “visionary of the genre” and “one of the figures opening jazz to new territories”. Avishai also uniquely combines sophisticated music with widespread popularity. His career truly began with Chick Corea: from 1996–2003, he was a mainstay of the Origin sextet and Chick Corea New Trio.

Years under the famous leader’s wing prompted widespread discussion of Avishai as a rising bass star and undisputed virtuoso. He played countless concerts with Chick Corea, gradually becoming the rhythmic pillar of almost all his artistic ventures. Beyond Corea, Cohen has recorded or performed with jazz stars including Bobby McFerrin, Herbie Hancock, Paquito D'Rivera and Danilo Perez. His first original groups and recordings under his own name date to 1998.

Since then, Avishai has recorded more than a dozen albums and performed at every major festival worldwide. In recent years, his combination of double bass playing and singing has caused a sensation. He does it remarkably, as the great success of his latest albums confirms.

The Wrocław line-up will be:
Avishai Cohen – Bass
Elchin Shirinov – Piano
Noam David – Drums
