Apparat with Live Band at City Sounds: a concert of German electronica in Wrocław

Loved by Polish audiences, German DJ and producer Apparat returns to Wrocław after nine years! The international electronic music star will perform with his live band on 25 October as part of the City Sounds series!

Apparat's concerts with his band overwhelm with the power of live sound and precisely broken rhythms. In the galaxy of contemporary electronica, the artist has shone with his own distinct light for years, standing out through cosmic talent, diligence and musical intelligence!

In the mid-1990s, Sascha Ring was heating up Berlin club dance floors, but he soon grew bored with playing techno and electro. He turned towards ambitious ambient and IDM, moving from designing beats to designing sounds. In 2001, he released his debut, “Multifunktionsebene”, under the name Apparat, and two years later began collaborating with experimental techno queen Ellen Allien. In 2006, they recorded the acclaimed “Orchestra of Bubbles”, released on cult label BPitch Control. Meanwhile, the legendary John Peel had become fascinated by his talent and invited him into his studio a few months before his death.

The boundaries of Apparat’s musical imagination were expanding at an impressive pace. In 2007, he formed his first band to perform tracks from the superb “Walls” live, and two years later he recorded the first album by the trio Moderat with the musicians from Modeselektor, propelling him to new heights of popularity. Moderat had existed since 2002 and had released one EP, but it took years for Sascha, Sebastian Szary and Gernot Bronsert to develop a shared vision for a musical project that would, as it turned out, change the face of modern electronic music forever.

Apparat did not abandon his solo work — quite the opposite: he began venturing into new, previously unexplored musical territory. He composed music for films and theatre productions, giving free rein to his characteristic melancholy and sensitivity. Over the years he has developed a distinctive style, recognisable from the very first sound, in which dance-oriented electronica mixes with ambient, post-rock, dream pop, shoegaze and classical music.

Apparat appears regularly in Poland, but rarely comes here with his band. He has played in Wrocław only once before, in 2006, giving an unforgettable DJ set at the famous, now-closed “Droga do Mekki” club.

The Eter concert will be exceptional in every respect. Apparat returns to Wrocław in peak form on the major international “Soundtracks Live” tour, presenting new compositions for films and theatre productions together with his band.
