António Zambujo at Stary Klasztor: the Portuguese singer with “Rua da Emenda”

The concert will take place on 8 December in the atmospheric Gothic Hall at Stary Klasztor, at ul. Purkyniego 1. The singer will promote his latest album, Rua da Emenda, acclaimed by critics and audiences around the world.

António Zambujo was born on 19 September 1975 in Beja, Alentejo. He grew up listening to classical music in Cante Alentejano and, even as a child, was enthralled by many great fado artists.

Raised in a happy, musical environment, he began learning clarinet at just 8. More than 8 years later, he won a prestigious competition for young fado performers. Soon afterwards, he made the bold decision to move to Lisbon, a choice that would significantly shape his future.

Guided and taught by excellent guitarist and composer Mário Pacheco, he quickly found his feet in fado. Mário introduced him behind the scenes and revealed all the music's secrets, while bringing him into the Clube do Fado line-up.

Some time later, theatre director Filipe La Feria selected him for a role in the musical Amalia. António played Francisco Cruz, Amalia's first husband. This also gave him an opportunity to overcome stage fright and learn the secrets of the musician's profession.

In 2002, António recorded his first album, O Mesmo Fado. It earned him his first award, Best New Fado Voice, presented by Radio Nova FM.

His latest journey takes him to Rua da Emenda. Fascinated by the place, he recorded his sixth album, Rua da Emenda, in 2014. It leads us through narrow streets and around the world, pausing at the sounds of Brazil, France, Uruguay and Africa.

It all unfolds to the sound of unforgettable Portuguese fado music.
