Ana Moura: intimate Portuguese fado and a voice familiar from The Rolling Stones Project
Ana Moura pairs an expressive voice with the intimacy of Portuguese fado. The preview of her Wrocław concert explores her understated arrangements, the debut “Guarda-me a Vida na Mão” and her work with The Rolling Stones Project.

Ana Moura is a Portuguese singer and one of the most important contemporary fado artists. Although her voice is powerful and moving, she prioritises intimacy and a chamber-like atmosphere. Her arrangements avoid an overwhelming number of instruments — she usually sings with classical guitar — and her interpretations are far from Mariza's melodramatic performances.
Ana Moura debuted in 2003 with “Guarda-me a Vida na Maoî”. The album received excellent reviews and was warmly welcomed by Portuguese and international audiences alike. In 2005, Tim Ries, The Rolling Stones' regular saxophonist, was captivated by Ana's voice and invited her to help create an album for The Rolling Stones Project.
Her friendship with the giants of rock led to Tim Ries's involvement in Ana's next album. Released in the first half of 2007, it went double platinum and became one of the most popular fado releases in history. Since then, her popularity has continued to grow, and for several years now she has deservedly been called a major international fado star.
So far, she has released 6 records, each a major success: Guarda-me a vida na mao (2003), Aconteceu (2004), Para Além da Saudade (2007), Coliseu (live DVD performance from Coliseum of Lisboa) (2008), Leva-me aos Fados (2009) and Desfado (2012)
Ethno Jazz Festival audiences had the opportunity to enjoy Ana Moura’s talent in May 2011. Now it is time for another visit to Wrocław from the fado star.
