AN EVENING FULL OF EMOTION AND THE BEAUTY OF JAZZ IMPROVISATION
18 MARCH 2025
Through her virtuosity, improvisational ability and unique styles combining jazz and R&B, Dianne Reeves became the first artist to win three consecutive Grammys for Best Jazz Vocal Performance. Throughout her impressive career, she has recorded and performed with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, worked with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Daniel Barenboim, and appeared as a soloist with Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic. Reeves was the first person to hold the position of Creative Chair for Jazz at the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the first singer to perform at the famous Walt Disney Concert Hall.
For A Little Moonlight, an intimate collection of jazz standards, Reeves worked with legendary producer Arif Mardin (Norah Jones, Aretha Franklin), earning another Grammy. Her festive collection Christmas Time is Here was described by Ben Ratliff of The New York Times as “one of the best jazz Christmas albums he had ever heard”.
Reeves also had the honour of appearing in George Clooney’s film “Good Night, and Good Luck”, winning a Grammy for her performance on its soundtrack. In recent years, she has toured worldwide, taking part in projects such as “Sing the Truth”, a musical tribute to Nina Simone alongside Lizz Wright and Angelique Kidjo. She has also performed at the White House several times, including at President Obama’s state dinner for the President of China.
Her latest album, Beautiful Life, produced by Terri Lyne Carrington and featuring Gregory Porter, Robert Glasper, Lalah Hathaway and Esperanza Spalding, among others, won a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Performance. Reeves has also been named a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts, the highest honour awarded to jazz artists in the USA.
