Fanfare Ciocărlia brings the irresistible energy of Balkan brass to Wrocław. The celebrated Romanian orchestra draws on Romani traditions while embracing jazz, pop and rock, turning its concerts into encounters full of rhythm, humour and instrumental flair. At Stary Klasztor's Gothic Hall, as part of Ethno Jazz Festival, listeners can experience that distinctive sound up close: powerful bass lines meet lightning-fast melodies and spirited solos. It is an invitation into a musical world where the precision of the ensemble leaves plenty of room for spontaneity, and every tune builds a lively conversation between the musicians and their audience.

The concert welcomes both longtime world music fans and listeners discovering Balkan brass for the first time. Fanfare Ciocărlia combines instrumental skill with the exuberance of playing together. Brilliant solos and unexpected melodic turns make close listening just as rewarding as joining the dance.

Fanfare Ciocărlia – from Romani tradition to the world stage

The band's story begins in Zece Prăjini, a small village in northeastern Romania. The musicians grew up with traditions passed down by their fathers and grandfathers. Learning to play was part of family life, with melodies and playing techniques shared across generations.

From these local roots, the band reached audiences far beyond Romania. Its international career has kept that connection intact: Fanfare Ciocărlia preserves the Romani identity of its music while welcoming new influences.

Balkan rhythms, jazz, pop and rock

Fanfare Ciocărlia brings Balkan brass together with jazz, pop and rock. Low brass lines underpin rapid phrases, solo passages and exchanges between the musicians. Even at the fastest tempos, the playing reveals the band's precision and close musical understanding.

On stage, the music takes on an extra intensity. The band moves freely from the full force of the ensemble to a single, expressive melody. The Stary Klasztor concert offers a chance to hear this meeting of discipline and spontaneity up close.
