Get your rum ready and polish your wooden legs! On May 2nd, Wrocław A2 Concert Center will transform into a veritable pirate ship. An absolute legend of the genre will perform for the Polish audience – the Scottish band Alestorm. In 2004, in a small town in eastern Scotland, a few buddies decided to form an epic metal band playing songs about pirates. Called Battleheart, they had no idea what they were doing, but they managed to release a few demos and gain local popularity. In 2007, the band caught the attention of the world-renowned Austrian label Napalm Records, and after changing their name to Alestorm, the group signed a five-album record deal.
Their debut album, "Captain Morgan's Revenge," released in 2008, immediately catapulted the band to the forefront of the European metal scene, leading to extensive tours alongside bands like Turisas, Sabaton, Dragonforce, Eluveitie, and many others. The band quickly began appearing at some of Europe's most prestigious festivals, including Wacken Open Air, Bloodstock Open Air, Graspop Metal Meeting, and Sweden Rock Festival.
Alestorm's reputation continued to grow following the release of their second album, "Black Sails at Midnight," in 2009, leading to world tours spanning North America, Australia, and Europe. In the following years, they released several albums and had numerous successful festival appearances.
Alestorm's popularity and critical acclaim skyrocketed following the release of 2017's No Grave But the Sea, which featured a stable lineup of Christopher Bowes (vocals), Mate Bodor (guitars), Gareth Murdock (bass), Elliot Vernon (keyboards), and Peter Alcorn (drums). The band achieved several top-ten hits worldwide and quickly began regularly headlining sold-out shows to over 2,000 people a night on every continent, cementing their reputation as the world's best live band.
The COVID pandemic didn't stop the band's ambitions, as they released their most ambitious album yet in 2020, "Curse of the Crystal Coconut," followed in 2021 by the critically acclaimed live DVD "Live in Tilburg," recorded in front of an audience of over 3,000 rabid fans. In the summer of 2022, the band released their seventh and latest album, "Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum," which spent two weeks at number one on the Hungarian album sales chart and remained in the top ten for several more. Following its release, Alestorm embarked on the biggest festival and concert tour of their career, including a massive European headline tour in January 2023, where the band played to audiences of up to 4,600 people per night. Alestorm is the best pirate metal band in the world.
